Hello friends,
This is just a quick announcement to share that I’ve decided to change the name of this journal. While I love the name Girl With Antlers, for many reasons, it no longer feels like the right fit for this space. I found that name when I was pregnant and it was very symbolic of the person I was pre-motherhood. My life has changed significantly since then, as have my writing goals and intentions for this journal.
I’ve been considering a name change for over a year now, but never found one that fit. Then, while on a walk this week, a new name popped into my head and my heart just felt right with it. I’ve learned to pay attention when I have that feeling of lightness in my chest, an expansiveness that tells me my intuition is on the right track. So, without further ado, let me welcome you to:
In Celtic folklore, hawthorn trees are seen as gateways to the otherworld. As I’ve often felt like a bridge between two worlds, the real and the imaginary, I love how this new title symbolizes that liminal space.
I’ve been on an unintentional Substack hiatus the past few months. I’m currently drafting my second novel and my family’s been going through some major upheavals that have left me raw and unsteady. I have lots of ideas for what I want to do with this journal when I have the energy to come back to it, but for now, I’m honoring my wintering nature and turning inward to plant seeds for the future.
Thank you for being here and I look forward to sharing more art and stories again soon.
Love the old resonance of the name and now the new hawthorn symbolism! My father’s family stem from Celtic roots and I never knew this about hawthorns being gateways - thank you for sharing!
I'm so happy to hear that you found a fit that feels right. Can't wait to see what you do with this space!
