I took this photo of my mom, Oma, and I a couple years ago during a visit to my grandparents’ house. I’ve kind of avoided working on it since then because I knew I’d have to replace the entire background. This year though, I was determined to finish it as a gift for the two of them.
My Oma is a painter, so instead of a traditional digital backdrop I opted to use one of the Rijksmuseum’s free images. It felt particularly fitting, since my grandparents are from Rotterdam and Dutch heritage was a big part of my childhood.
After some finagling, I managed to finish the portrait and send it to them both just in time for Mother’s Day! I got the idea for naming my lineage from
and it felt like such a perfect pairing for this special portrait.Hope you all had a beautiful Mother’s Day,

And I also love that we both named our sons Jasper 🥲
Ahh I should do something like this with my mum and grandmother and daughter. That would be pretty special. And I wouldn’t have thought to change the background 🤦♀️ so thank you for that idea! Haha
