I have chills as I write this, hardly able to believe that it’s real. After five years of writing, two years of querying, my sister and I have accepted an offer of representation for our novel from Miriam Cortinovis of ArtHouse Literary.
We have an agent!
This is a dream I’ve been holding close to my heart ever since childhood. I first started writing when I was eight years old and knew from then on that I wanted to be an author.
There’s still a long road ahead for us to try and get the book published. But this is such a huge step forward and makes me feel hopeful that it could maybe, actually happen.
*screaming, laughing, crying, jumping up and down for joy*
Wait, you wrote a book? What’s it about?
I know, I haven’t mentioned it much here before. But yes, I wrote a book. The Crow and the Rose (title pending) is an adult fantasy novel written by myself and my older sister Chiarra.
Our story follows Myrla, the eldest princess, as she joins a magical order of faeries that commands strange mists and protects her kingdom from harm. A rare gift will unveil dangerous secrets and push her apart from her younger sister, the person Myrla cares about the most.
It is a dark prequel to a classic fairytale that explores sisterhood, trauma, loss, and what people are willing to sacrifice to save those they love.
How do you write a book with two people?
This is probably the question we get asked the most often. The answer: with lots of trust, honesty, and open communication.
Luckily, the two of us have been telling stories together for most of our lives. The Makebelieves we used to play as children set a solid foundation for our ability to weave a narrative in tandem.
You can read more about our co-authoring process and the story behind our book on my website.
Needless to say, I’ll definitely be sharing more writing news via this journal from now on. I also sporadically post updates on my Instagram if you’d like to follow along there (there may also be a very happy, goblin-squealing reaction video on my reels in the next couple days).
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all the friends, family, and beta readers who helped support us in this project. We couldn’t have done it without you.
