We begin at the threshold.
It’s always at the edge of town, the transitional space between civilization and the wild that stories occur. To grow and discover ourselves, we have to leave behind what we know and venture into that dark wood, face the monsters of our minds so that we can return victorious.
This journal is a space for that exploration. Here I combine my own lived experiences with the dream dance of my mind.
I’ve always lived at the crossroads: one foot in the imaginary world, one foot in reality. This feeling of being in-between has left me with a strange dichotomy, a desire to both reveal truth and hide it within stories.
HEY, IT’S KERANI
I’m an author, fine art photographer, perpetual dreamer, and all around compulsive creative from the Pacific Northwest. In 2024, I signed with Miriam Cortinovis to represent my debut novel, a dark fairytale prequel co-authored with my sister. My art has been featured in spaces such as Persephone magazine and been a finalist in the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize.
I started this journal in 2022 as a way to move past fears of sharing my work online. Since then it’s evolved into a behind-the-scenes glimpse into my world, where I share the ups and downs of creativity as well as my experiences with motherhood. You’ll find themes of enchantment, divine femininity, queerness, and duality in my work, as well as references to classic folklore, fairytales, and mythologies.
WHAT TO EXPECT
I’m still evolving what I want this space to be and don’t want to box it in with too many routines or definitions. That said, when you subscribe, you can expect to receive unpredictable* emails from me featuring one of the following:
Photo stories of my own fantasy art and fine art photography
Personal essays and reflections from my life as a mother-creative
Original short fiction vignettes or poems
Informal updates on my novel writing and publishing news
*One predictable thing: emails will be paused from January - February while I take my annual creative sabbatical
