You’ve drunk the magic potion. Stepped inside the faerie ring. Followed the wolf into the wild and crossed the threshold between dreams and reality.
Welcome to Under the Hawthorn Tree (formerly Girl With Antlers).
Think of this journal as a walk in the enchanted woods followed by an intimate conversation in an artist’s studio. It is a cottage library, a coven gathering, handwritten letters pressed between the pages of your favorite book.
My intention is for this space to be a haven for dreamers like me—those who live with one foot in the real world, one foot in the imaginary. The seers, the mother-makers, the compulsive creatives.
If you find magic in the rustling leaves overhead, get lost between glimmers of dappled light, stay up until 2:00 am whispering just one more chapter…
Come in, friend. Welcome. I’ve been waiting for you.
WHO AM I
My name is Kerani (pronounced ker-ah-nee for the curious). I'm a fiction author, fantasy photographer, and costume designer from the Pacific Northwest.

As far back as I can remember, I have been obsessed with stories. Books and tales of magic were my initial refuge as a child, a space where I learned how to process emotion through the lens of narrative. Whether it’s novel writing, taking photos, or sewing gowns for my portraits, I weave stories into everything I do.
This is my form of magic.
I started this journal as a place to explore my writing and challenge myself to move past fears of sharing my work online. The name Under the Hawthorn Tree was inspired by how these trees symbolize gateways to the faerie realm in folklore. I’ve often felt like a bridge between two worlds, the ordinary and the make-believe, and this journal will be an intersection of both.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In this journal, I share my own art and short fiction writing as well as personal reflections from my life as an author and mother-creative. It is a window into who I am as a person: dreamy, emotional, messy, vulnerable, raw.
I try not to box in this space with too many rules (I have a long habit of setting creative routines for myself and then becoming overwhelmed). So, with an asterisk that it might change at any time, here’s what to expect when you subscribe:
A monthly photo story featuring my own original fantasy art
Occasional updates on my novel writing journey and other projects
Bonus galleries, personal essays, and behind-the-scenes creative musings as I feel inspired to share them
